About Us

Gyro Binos is a U.S. manufacturer of hand-held gyro-stabilized optical products. These high-powered, world-class optics have been in use by US and foreign militaries for more than 40 years. All products are backed by proven performance in military and law enforcement mission-critical operations and have been tested under extreme conditions.

Our state-of-the-art equipment is used worldwide to conduct long range surveillance on the ground, aboard ships, and from airborne platforms. It is used primarily to detect personnel and vehicle movement, as well as to aid in the identification of targets of interest at long ranges. Manufactured to MILSPEC standards, all of our products are proudly made in the USA at our facility in Huntingdon Valley, Pennsylvania.

About Gyro-Stabilization

Gyro-stabilization is based on the principle of conservation of angular momentum. The gyro consists of a motor and a flywheel which, when spinning at full speed, resists changes to its orientation due to the angular momentum of the flywheel. When the unit shakes in one direction, the gyro moves in the opposite direction. Through manipulation of the prisms, gyro-stabilization provides a pure image.

The small amount of movement when holding a binocular, called “jitter,” is magnified by the optics, degrading the image. In a gyro-stabilized binocular the prisms are mounted on a platform (gimbal) that can swivel independently of the rest of the binocular. A small motor driven gyroscope sits on the platform manipulating the prisms to stabilize the image and retain clarity.

Products made by Gyro Binos incorporate our Fraser STEDI-EYE® Technology, which removes up to 98% of image motion caused by hand tremor and platform vibration. This is essential for use in fast moving situations, or for use in any moving vessel, platform or vehicle.

The History of Fraser Optics and Gyro-Stabilized Optics

For more than five decades, the technology behind today's Gyro Binos products has been trusted in some of the world's most demanding environments.

Developed to deliver stable, long-range observation where vibration, motion, and harsh conditions are unavoidable, these optics have earned a reputation for reliability across military, law enforcement, maritime, and professional applications.

1972: Pioneering a New Category of Optics

Fraser-Volpe Corporation is founded in Pennsylvania by Joe and David Fraser. At a time when image stabilization technology was still in its infancy, the company began developing active image-stabilized optical systems designed to overcome the limitations of traditional binoculars in motion.

These early innovations laid the groundwork for what would become decades of advancement in gyro-stabilized viewing technology. The company's work helped establish a new standard for long-range observation in environments where vibration and movement had traditionally made clear viewing difficult.

2012: Expanding Beyond Defense Applications

After decades of success supplying stabilized optics for demanding professional applications, the company rebrands as Fraser Optics. The new identity reflects an expanded focus that includes commercial, industrial, maritime, and professional users seeking the same proven stabilization technology relied upon in mission-critical environments.

This period marked a significant expansion of stabilized optics into markets where long-range observation, vessel-based viewing, and professional field operations demanded higher levels of image stability and clarity than conventional binoculars could provide.

2022: The Launch of Gyro Binos

Manufacturing and distribution of Fraser Optics' civilian gyro-stabilized products transition to Gyro Binos in Huntingdon Valley, Pennsylvania.

This move ensures continued support and availability of some of the world's most advanced stabilized optical systems while allowing Gyro Binos to focus exclusively on serving civilian, commercial, maritime, recreational, and professional users. The transition also positions the company to continue expanding awareness of gyro-stabilized optics among fishermen, hunters, wildlife observers, search and rescue teams, and other users who benefit from stable long-range viewing.

Today: Continuing the Legacy of Stabilized Viewing

Today, Gyro Binos continues to build on more than 50 years of optical innovation. Powered by proven STEDI-EYE® technology, our products eliminate up to 98% of image motion, delivering steady, crystal-clear viewing from moving vessels, vehicles, aircraft, and other unstable platforms.

The technology continues to evolve while remaining rooted in the same principles that helped establish the category decades ago: delivering reliable, stabilized viewing when conditions are at their most challenging.

Trusted by professionals around the world, Gyro Binos remains committed to advancing stabilized optics for marine observation, offshore fishing, search and rescue, surveillance, wildlife observation, hunting, and other applications where clear vision, long-range performance, and stability are essential.
